The Radical Eye: Modernist Photography from The Sir Elton John Collection
Man Ray, Glass Tears, 1932
Herbert Bayer, Humanly Impossible (Self Portrait) 1932
Friday afternoon I spent very happily enjoying the most incredible collection of modernist photographs from The Elton John Collection. Having studied photography when I first came to London I was so excited to see this exhibition with so many iconic images in one room (or maybe 2 or three rooms!). Not only have I never seen such an extraordinary private collection of such exciting, evocative and significant photographs all hung together but also the brilliant framing and mounting of each and every one. The frames were an art form in themselves. This exhibition gave me a little bit of snapshot of Elton John's personal life.
"Each of these photographs serves as inspiration for me in my life; they line the walls of my home and I consider them precious gems. I want people to think, 'I've never seen anything like that before, never knew this kind of thing existed' - just as I did when I first saw these photographs." Sir Elton John
